Balance between training and recovery

10–12 år

Start the conversation about what their everyday life looks like and that, in addition to training, there also needs to be time for recovery, school, and any other activities. The benefit of starting early to reflect on how it feels for me and that we are all different—where we, as important adults, provide support—will create the conditions for the participants themselves to better understand and make informed choices as they get older. We practise coaching ourselves!

How it works:

  • Discuss in the group the questions you consider essential, for example: “We train twice a week now. Does that feel like the right amount considering other activities?”, “What do you think is good recovery?”, “What gives you energy?”, “What is the most enjoyable part of training that we should continue doing more of?”
  • Be clear that we are learning and that it may take time. We practise taking the next step and helping one another!

Listen to their thoughts—some may want extra training sessions, others feel it is enough. As an important adult, you help encourage a good balance and what that entails, as well as building good habits over time.

Why democratic leadership:

• Stay longer in sports
• Thrive and feel better
• Develop their performance
• Dare to speak up if something is wrong!
• Start where you are and build step by step.
• Every small change makes a difference!
