Young people who wish to have the opportunity to become assistant coaches with responsibility for their own group during parts of the training session.
How it works:
- Offer interested youth the opportunity to become youth coaches.
- Give the youth responsibility for a specific part of the training, recurring weekly. For example, a technical drill or a skill exercise.
- The youth plan, prepare, and execute independently (with a present leader available for feedback and support).
- Have regular follow-up conversations, preferably after a training session, with the head coach to talk about how it felt, what seems to be working well and what they should continue doing, and whether there are any lessons to take away. For example, “How can we communicate to reach everyone?” “Where should you as a leader position yourself when you talk to the group?”
Tip! Highlight opportunities for coach training through the club and federation to encourage the youth to take the next step in their role as coaches.
