Inclusion Buddy

16–18 år

A number of young people are assigned the task of focusing specifically on ensuring that everyone feels included and safe within the training group for a set period. Prior to the assignment, you should collectively discuss the importance of including everyone and how it affects both the individual and the group when everyone feels secure and part of the community.

How it works:

Two to three young people serve as ‘Inclusion Buddies’ for a period, during which their role is to ensure that everyone is involved, look out for one another, and provide motivation and encouragement.

  • They consult with the leader regarding their perception of the group and identify areas that may require additional focus. If they observe that someone is struggling or does not feel included, it is beneficial to discuss how the individual can support others in the group in a constructive manner.
  • Rotate the role so that everyone has the opportunity
  • This fosters awareness and responsibility for the well-being of the group

One recommendation is to advise the participants against singling out specific individuals or mentioning anyone by name; instead, focus on discussing desired behaviors to facilitate help and support.

Why democratic leadership:

• Stay longer in sports
• Thrive and feel better
• Develop their performance
• Dare to speak up if something is wrong!
• Start where you are and build step by step.
• Every small change makes a difference!
