The children can choose between different stations during training. This provides a safe sense of choice within a clear structure and helps avoid the “spectator effect”, as many children find it challenging to perform when others are watching.
How it works:
- Set up 3–6 stations with exercises—preferably with different focus areas.
- Explain the exercises at all stations by first describing them and then demonstrating them actively. Reinforce what you want the participants to focus on, as well as the time intervals before rotation.
- Let the children choose which station they want to start at.
- Rotate after a set time. As the coach, you can also remind the participants that “We’ll go for 3 more minutes, then we’ll switch” to prepare them for the rotation.
Progression: If your group is ready, you can allow the children to choose completely freely, without a set rotation/order. Try it out, and it is OK if it takes a little time—be patient as a coach and let them work it out themselves.
